Happy New Year
Happy New Year to you all and I hope you all had a great Christmas and that no one found coal under the tree.
SESMA finished 2011 with a high as we saw James Seago, Cameron Tungate, Liam Barker achieve 1st Dan Black belt and Sensei David Sayer pass his 3rd Dan Black Belt.
Over the year of 2011, SESMA have taught 9 students to Junior Black Belt, 3 students to Senior Black Belt, 1 instructor to 2nd Dan Black Belt and 1 instructor to 3rd Dan Black Belt, a total of 14 Black Belt grades. Well done to those that passed their Black Belt in 2011 and to their family for supporting them in their chosen sport.
We must not forget all the students that passed their coloured belt grades as they are a valuable step towards Black Belt and personal achievement.
Remember: A Black Belt is only a White Belt that never gave up.
Special Offer For Parents
Parents have you ever thought of joining in with you children while they are learning their martial art?
I know some of you have and once taken the step of joining in have really enjoyed themselves, and have graded for their belts
This is how Sensei Chris, Sensei Lynda and Sensei David first started karate with SESMA by joining in with their children and now are senior instructors with SESMA. We have had other parents achieve black belt and now have some that are on the first few rungs of the ladder to black belt.
There are not many sports or hobbies that can get you fit, confidence to protect yourself and enjoy with your children.
The excuse I hear a lot of the time is that “I’m too old to do that”, but I didn’t hear that excuse from Warren & Marshal’s Nan who has achieved her yellow belt.
I would like to encourage parents to support their children and train as a family by offering parents a reduced membership price of £49,
2 months free training and your red belt grading free per parent.
This offer is available during the month of January and February. (Only available for parents of existing members)
You will move into the BBT class with your child and will be helped by one of the Elite Leadership students so that you will quickly feel at ease and pick up the techniques.

Bi-Monthly Training Session
Our next Bi Monthly training session will be on Saturday 3rd March 1-3pm at the SESMA Studio.
Our guest instructor will be Jan Strzelec who is a 5th Dan Karate and a 6th Dan Ju-Jitsu. He is also a qualified European referee for the Sport Karate.
This is normally free to all Elite Leadership students and instructors, but due to costs I will have to charge a small fee of £5 for the Elite Leadership and Instructors.
All other students £10 (not suitable for Little Dragons)
Please book your place for this training session as places are limited.
Newmarket Grading
The Newmarket grading was postponed due to students other commitments. The new grading date is Friday 3rd February during normal class times.
This will give plenty of time for parents to fit the grading in to their schedule and for the students to get themselves focused and sharp after Xmas.
Newmarket Assessments: These will be during class times throughout the 2 weeks before the grading.

Times: 5pm white, red, yellow, green. 6pm 2nd green, blue, 2nd blue. 7pm purple & brown
8pm normal kata class for 2nd brown and black belts

Times: 10am white, red, yellow & orange 12pm green, 2nd green & blue belts 2pm 2nd blue & above 4pm kickboxers

White Belt Grading (Not for Little Dragons)
We appreciate that it can be quite a long time for White belt students to wait before they can take their first grading to Red belt.
With this in mind we will be running a White belt grading every month. You will need to wait a minimum of 4 weeks before you can attempt the grading for Red belt. The grading will be quite informal and relaxed with the emphasis on helping you through the grade. We will only award you your Red belt if you meet our required standard but will help and demonstrate where improvements can be made if you are not quite ready.
Cost of the grading is £25 and only payable if you are successful. (This only applies to your first grade to red belt)

Newmarket Friday February 3rd 5pm (Not for Little Dragons)
New Playful Pandas
Thursdays 9:15-10:15am at the SESMA Studio
Playful Pandas is a creative session for 2-4 year olds with parental participation.
The sessions use soft play equipment and are held within our matted area making it a safe environment for the children to play and learn.
The staff work with the children to make the classes fun and joyful, they can help improve motor skills, co-ordination and confidence in young children.
These sessions are a great opportunity for children and parents to meet others and make friends.
Free tea and coffee for parents of participating children
Every Thursday 9:15am. 1st Session FREE £5 for 1st child, £2 for siblings
Newmarket Nerf Wars
Friday 17th February at the Newmarket Leisure centre. Organised by the Newmarket Leisure centre but will be run by SESMA. If you want to take part then please book and pay through the leisure centre.
February ½ Term Dates
Nerf Wars Day: Tuesday 14th February 9am 4-6yrs, 11am 7-10yrs, 1pm 11+yrs £6 per player.
(No places available but have some spaces on waiting list)
Nerf Wars Night: Saturday 11th February 4pm 4-6yrs, 6pm 7-10yrs, 8pm 11+yrs £8 per player.
(7-10yrs age group full)
Crazy Crafts: Thursday 16th February for 6+yrs, 10:30am-12:30pm & 1pm-3pm £6 per person.
(Place available in both age groups)
Places for the Nerf Wars & Crazy Crafts need to be paid by Friday 20th January otherwise your place will be given to someone else.

SESMA Gym Only A Few Places Left
Only a couple of places left for the gym.

Seb Taylor is joining the SESMA family of instructors this month.
Seb is a qualified personal fitness instructor, nutritionist and sports therapist and will be available for personal training, advice and fitness programmes. If you are interested please contact Seb on 07798 897361
Nerf Tag Wars Parties
For £120 we will provide 2 members of staff that will organise your Nerf party at the studio for up to 16 children, Nerf Tag guns, scoring vest, safety glasses, battle scenery, party invites & disclaimers and a selection of exciting Nerf Tag games.
The Parties are available on Saturday’s and there are 2 time slots to choose from: 1pm to 3pm 4:30pm to 6:30pm
An adjoining room will be set up with tables for food and drink; there will be the use of plates, cups and microwave for the party. You just have to provide food/drink and up to 16 guests, it’s that easy.
During the autumn and winter months when the nights have drawn in, why not give your party the extra fun factor with our Night Wars package for an extra £25.
For the Night Package (only available 4-6pm 1st November-1st March), we will provide our great night battle games with swirling fog and search lights.

WEEKEND SUMMER TRAINING CAMP
We are looking at running a family Summer Training Camp during the summer school holidays.
The campsite will have plenty of amenities for family members that do not want to train but would like to come along to the event.
There will be the choice of camp & train on site or just training.
We are looking at training during the day with your Senseis and guest instructors. In the evening we will be having a BBQ and a party. There will be the option to take a grading on the Sunday evening.
Rough time table of the weekend:
Friday evening or Saturday morning: Set up camp.
Friday evening: general get together.
Saturday late morning: group training
Saturday after lunch: group stretch and then choice of sessions
Saturday afternoon: group stretch and then choice of sessions
Saturday evening: BBQ and Party
Sunday morning: group stretch & choice of sessions
Sunday after lunch: group stretch and then choice of sessions
Sunday afternoon pt1: group stretch and then choice of sessions
Sunday afternoon pt2: last training session & grading for that are ready
Sunday afternoon pt3: pack up and farewells.
